Hidralia supports UNICEF in COVID-19 vaccination in resource-poor countries

Thanks to this contribution, it will be possible to vaccinate more than 1,600 people against the coronavirus

Hidralia, an Andalusian environmental company that is responsible for the integral management of water, has been involved in vaccination against COVID-19 in vulnerable countries through the COVAX Mechanism, promoted by UNICEF. That is why it will allocate 5,000 euros to this international initiative that promotes equitable global access to the coronavirus vaccine and that will allow more than 1,600 people to be vaccinated.

This contribution will support UNICEF's response against COVID-19 and accelerate vaccination in countries with fewer resources to face this process "so necessary to respond to a global threat and that, as such, requires global solutions, which do not leave anyone behind" said the president of UNICEF Comité Andalucía,  Claudia Zafra. "The entire world will remain vulnerable to the virus until countries with the weakest health systems are also protected from it. We are all in this together. No one wins, until we are all protected," he said.

Hidralia is a company committed to the environment, but also to a fair and equitable social development, something that is evident in the different social pacts that it is putting in place in the territories in which it manages the water service. Now he has also wanted to show his involvement with fast, fair and equitable access to vaccines, aware that it is the safest and most agile way to get out of the pandemic and to be able to return to normality, a task in which both Hidralia and UNICEF consider that we are all essential.

UNICEF is the world's largest supplier of vaccines. Each year it delivers more than 2 billion doses to nearly 100 countries. This experience and structure has led him to take on the enormous challenge of also getting COVID-19 vaccines to all countries in the world and, especially, to those with fewer resources. For Matilde Mancha, Director General of Hidralia "supporting UNICEF in this unprecedented global challenge is not only a matter of health and solidarity but of justice. It is an honor to be part of one of the most important logistics and health operations in history," he said.

Allowing low- and middle-income countries to access COVID-19 vaccines, as they become available, is the best way to ensure that no country is relegated to the background. Because no one will be safe until we are all safe.

The COVAX Mechanism is co-led by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi), of which UNICEF is a member, the Coalition for Innovation in Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
