Hidralia will turn the Park of West San Fernando into a smart green space
Digitize the irrigation system to take into account real-time parameters such as humidity, rain forecast or vegetation typology
Hidralia, concessionaire of the drinking water and sewerage service in San Fernando, will turn the park of the West of San Fernando into a smart green space. That is, in an area capable, through the digitization of its maintenance systems, of taking into account real-time parameters such as humidity, weather forecast or the typology of vegetation and soil, to determine the need for water of the place at all times.
In this way, Hidralia consolidates San Fernando's commitment to the promotion of sustainability and the fight against climate change, taking a new step for the municipality to move towards its transformation into a 'Smart City', taking advantage of the new digital possibilities to achieve a sustainable economic, social and environmental development of the town. In fact, this system complements the service that is currently being provided of the management of environmental indicators of the city, contributing to the continuous digitization of the town.
To this end, a digital platform, known as 'Smart Green', will be installed, as well as a series of sensors in the irrigation infrastructures, which will allow the system to become intelligent and improve its efficiency. To do this, it takes into account the characterization data of the space (vegetation typology, soil characteristics, irrigation infrastructure, etc.), of the information coming from own meteorological stations and from other networks such as the case of the AEMET (State Meteorological Agency), as well as real-time information on the humidity status of the park, allowing that with all this an algorithm can be created to calculate the optimal water balance of each of the areas of this green space. With this information, the system determines the most efficient irrigation schedule, providing the equipment with only the water it requires at all times.
In addition, it allows to monitor the consumption of water with average values of savings between 7 and 10% with respect to the usual system, making a more sustainable use of this resource. On the other hand, the digitalization of the irrigation process allows to detect in real time possible breakdowns or incidents in the infrastructure of the park and identify risk areas due to an inadequate water balance to be able to calibrate the parameters and achieve the highest quality of the green area.
