Aquae Foundation has launched its second reforestation this year. This new action will recover more than 20,000 m2 of the El Calvario natural area, located in Manilva, and will allow the absorption of 80 tons of CO2 over the next three decades.
Councilors Laura López and Diego José Jiménez have approached the place, accompanied by Mayor Mario Jiménez.
The mayor of Environment spoke to us about the objectives that were set at the beginning of the legislature where actions like this would be considered a priority.
For his part, the mayor of the town was very happy with this planting of trees and the future creation of a forest for the enjoyment of new generations.
The reforestation of Manilva, which is carried out with the collaboration of Hidralia and the town council itself, includes the planting of 800 trees of seven autochthonous species. Specifically, 240 specimens of Aleppo pine, 160 of holm oak, 120 of almond, 80 of cypress and wild olive, respectively, 40 of cork and the same number of carob trees will be planted.
The work is carried out by Sylvestris, a social enterprise expert in planting forest mass, with which the ‘Sembrando Oxygen’ project has been implemented since its inception.
According to various studies, planting trees is the best method to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and thus counteract global warming.
In this sense, it should be noted that a single tree can absorb up to 5 kg of atmospheric pollutants per year and produce up to 130 kg of oxygen, in the same period of time.
