Hidralia, innovation for climate change

Hidralia ensures sustainable management of water resources. The main lines of innovation focus on smart cities, the circular economy and efficiency in water resource management.

According to the 2017 Innovation Report, last year in Andalusia Hidralia executed 29 innovation projects with a budget of €607,000, in areas as wide-ranging as the circular economy, efficient water resource management, the fight against climate change, smart cities, and social innovation.

Projects notably included research into improving the efficiency and quality of groundwater catchment. With regard to improving efficiency in distribution, there have been significant advances in real-time remote-control monitoring to control leaks. In the last 5 years, these techniques have produced water savings of 4.81 hm3 just on Málaga's Costa del Sol alone.

However, the fight against climate change in Hidralia does not just involve water savings, but also the implementation of a global strategy to find solutions and alternatives to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions and the use of renewable energies and self-sufficient facilities.
