They intensify the work of the San Fernando leak plan to avoid water losses

Thanks to these measures, it recovers an average of 276,000 m3 in both 2022 and 2023, compared to previous years.

Hidralia, the concessionaire of the municipal water supply and sewage service of San Fernando, has already reviewed 70 kilometers of the city's supply network, within the leak plan that it draws up periodically, and which has intensified in recent weeks. to avoid water loss.

These campaigns, together with other actions to improve networks, have made it possible to considerably reduce non-recorded water, that is, the water that is lost between what enters the San Fernando networks and what is confirmed to be consumed. , in the last seven years. In fact, in both 2022 and 2023 an average ANR reduction of 276,000 m3 has been achieved compared to previous years.

Some actions that take on greater importance given the situation of 'serious shortages' declared in the area regulated by the Guadalete System, from which San Fernando is supplied, as a consequence of the persistent drought that affects the province. A condition that requires actions to reduce consumption and increase savings to the greatest extent possible, which is why the company is already considering reinforcement work that will allow the review of all of San Fernando's supply infrastructure.

At the moment, various leaks have been located and repaired with an estimated water loss saving of between 2 and 4 liters per second. This plan will continue to be developed in the coming weeks with the aim of solving hidden, non-visible leaks, thus reducing non-recorded water to improve the municipality's water performance. Something that has become a priority within the company's management and even more so now that the persistent drought threatens the management of water resources in the Intra-Community Hydrographic Demarcations of Andalusia.

A situation that tends to become increasingly frequent and intense periods in the region, as a consequence of climate change, which is why projects and actions are needed that serve to catalyze the necessary changes that adapt cities to the new challenges to which they face. they face each other.

More exact locations

To undertake the verification of the pipes, Hidralia uses different systems and techniques, based on innovation, which allow an increasingly accurate location of leaks and reduce harm to citizens, by avoiding having to open ditches, carry out pipeline cuts. routes or service interruptions to find water losses.

Hidralia has equipment in San Fernando that, through auscultation of the elements in contact with the distribution network, is able to identify the characteristic noise produced by a leak, which allows the section to be identified and delimited. that work has to be done to repair it exactly.

This work is complemented by a sectorization of the distribution network, dividing it into independent zones, so that each of them can be considered autonomously. In this way, thanks to the flow control in them (balancing the incoming and outgoing volumes), areas that present possible losses can be isolated and action can be taken on them both in the urban center and in the neighborhoods.
