Water reuse stands out as a key element for the industry at the Green Hydrogen Congress
Hidralia highlights the importance of reducing the water footprint in production processes
Hidralia, a leading company in water management in Andalusia and which participates together with the city council in Aguas de Huelva, has been present at the National Green Hydrogen Congress held in Huelva, led by the highest representative of its group business, Manuel Cermerón, CEO of Veolia Spain.
Manuel Cermerón spoke with a presentation titled 'Water, energy transition and territorial development' in which he highlighted the key role, in the face of the challenge of drought, of the reuse of water for the industrial field.
Water is necessary in the vast majority of industrial processes, especially in the case of green hydrogen production. In a context of growing water scarcity that impacts a large part of the country – particularly southern Spain –, water is considered a critical and strategic resource for the development and competitiveness of territories whose sustainable management contributes to economic growth.
In this context, both Hidralia and Veolia at the national level, accompany industries by putting at their disposal expert knowledge in the field of water and technological innovation, promoting the use of regenerated water (which is what comes out of purification plants and It undergoes additional treatment to be suitable, with the highest quality standards, for new uses, including in the industrial field) as a sustainable solution – with a lower water footprint compared to other solutions – and proximity. In his speech, Manuel Cermerón highlighted: “With reuse, we act as a driving agent for the development of the sector, key to the end of fossil fuels, integrating the water vector to enable the long-term capacity of hydrogen in areas with water stress. like Spain".
Likewise, desalination represents another alternative and complementary source of water supply. Both solutions make it possible to reduce pressure on water resources and dependence on the weather, which is essential in the current drought situation.
For three days, the National Green Hydrogen Congress, promoted by the Huelva Federation of Entrepreneurs (FOE), is positioned as a key meeting where we can reflect and debate the potential of green hydrogen in the development of economic activity. More than 800 people attend this first edition, along with 300 companies, representatives of different national and international associations and clusters. In addition to the debate tables and presentations, the event has a large exhibition area and a networking space with the aim of sharing experiences and initiatives, as well as promoting strategic alliances.
