Marbella extends the urgent measures to save drinking water in the face of the exceptional drought situation
Due to the scarcity of water resources for the supply on the Costa del Sol and the situation of Exceptional Drought due to Severe Shortage, the use of drinking water for non-essential uses in Marbella will be restricted, to guarantee human supply in the municipality.
As reported by the Marbella Town Hall, on a municipal side, urgent measures will be taken in the municipality to save drinking water due to the severe scarcity of water resources for the supply of the Western Costa del Sol Region, which is located in Situation of Exceptional Drought.
These measures have the objective of reducing the demand for urban water by at least 10%, in order to guarantee the supply to the population.
As established in the Special Drought Plan of the Hydrographic Demarcation of the Mediterranean Basins, the use of drinking water for non-essential uses and specifically for:
Irrigation of golf courses.
- Filling of private pools.
- Car wash outside authorized establishments.
- Ornamental fountains that do not have a closed water circuit, showers and public fountains.
- Any other non-essential use.
The frequency of weekly performances is REDUCED in the following cases:
- Irrigation of gardens, orchards, parks or green areas, both public and private, will be reduced to a maximum of 3 days a week and reducing the intensity of water used for each of these irrigations to the maximum possible.
- The washing of streets, sidewalks, facades or any other surface, both public and private, will be reduced by 20%, using non-potable water as a source of supply, putting into operation the non-potable water well at C/ Camilo José Cela corner Plaza del Mar for these uses.
These limitations will enter into force on July 13, 2023 and will last indefinitely, until a new edict is issued that annuls them or the end of the drought situation is declared.
